Before Class

• Read or listen to assigned course material
• Check Slack to make sure you are caught up (entable Slack Notification!)

For your first time leading discussion, you must meet with me, at the latest, the day before you are to lead your first discussion to review the plan (before 5 PM). Make an appt. here (instructions for how to set up appt. below). For the second and third time you lead a discussion, meeting with me will be optional, but welcomed and highly encouraged!

To set yourself up for success:

• [ ] Do the readings, watch the films, listen to the podcasts
• [ ] Read the Handout: Tips for When You Are the Teacher **handout.
• [ ] Meet with your partner(s) — decide on roles such as who will keep track of time, distribute handouts, etc
• Form a concrete plan for your discussion

If we are going to meet, you must do all of the above beforehand.

Before we meet, and at the latest by 5 pm, the day before you lead, you must:

• [ ] Send me your proposed discussion topic(s) in a few sentences and a brief outline of your discussion plan. The outline should include the questions and your responses to those questions (in bullet point form)
• [ ] Mention any concerns or questions you may have.
• [ ] Be on the lookout for an email with my feedback by 6pm

If applicable:

• Arrive early to set up powerpoints or video clips
• Bring any dongles necessary to connect your laptop to the TV or request these from me beforehand
• Print handouts or materials </aside>

During Class

• Plan to arrive to class on time by 1:10 PM

• Please put away anything that could distract our learning

• Take hand-written notes focused on concepts in class

• Contribute actively to your own learning and learning of others

<aside> 🧑🏻‍🏫 Student Teachers

Lead! It’s your time to shine. But also:

• If applicable: Distribute handouts or materials
• Keep track of time
• At times, you might find it helpful to have one teacher jot down students’ ideas on the board for all to see (or in a powerpoint, bullet-point style) </aside>

After Class

• Review notes and resources from class.

• Make note of anything that was unclear to ask your peers during class or consultation with me

• Look ahead for due dates

• Get a head start on SciCommProj papers

When possible, stay behind for 5-10 minutes to receive feedback from me. If you cannot stay behind, I will email you my feedback. Incorporate any feedback into future discussions you lead.
